1.  Do not use your last name.  Middle school students can
use their first name OR make up a user name.  Talk to your
parents and your teacher about what is best for you.
2.  Do not give personal information.
3.  Do not use your screen name from other sites.
4.  Make sure all comments are polite, on topic, and use
correct grammar and spelling

Use the comment feature in these blog pages to express yourself.

What do I do?

1.  Use the navigation at the top to see the blog pages. 
Currently, each page only has one topic to keep it very simple. 

2.  To add your own comment or view comments by others,
click on "Comments" in the top right hand corner of the post.

3.  Enter your user name only. You do not need to enter an
email address.  Remember, students are not allowed to use
their last name. Middle school students can use their first
name or make up a user name.  In some cases the teacher
will assign user names. Examples:  Shelly, bookworm, flower1, soccerfan

4.  All blog comments at this site are moderated by a teacher,
so comments will not be visible until "approved" by the teacher.

5.  If you have questions, visit with your teacher or librarian.



 

What is a blog?

Web + Log = Blog
A blog is an online journal that is updated often and can include a wide variety of topics.  Blog posts are usually written by one person, but meant to be viewed by others.  In this blog, your teachers and librarian will be asking questions.  Students will "comment" to share their opinions on a variety of topics.


Blogging Vocabulary

Post
- An entry written and published to a blog.

Comment  (or Reply)– This is a written reaction by a reader of a blog to what was written in the blog entry by the author. Comments can often be found directly following the blog entry.

Tag - Keywords that are used to label similar posts.

Tag Cloud – A collection/listing of tags used in a blog.  Within the cloud, each tag’s size and/or color is determined by the number of times it is used throughout the blog.

Category – This is a method of organizing entries by assigning each entry to a predetermined topic. Each topic (category) will link to a list of entries, all with related content.

Sidebar - One or more columns along one or both sides of most blogs main page. They may contain profiles to the blogger, links to other blogs, categories, and other information.

I think Americans watch too much TV. One report said that Americans watch an average of 140 hours of television each month--that comes out to over 4 hours per day or 70 days of the year. I think that the amount of time that we spend watching TV is weakening families and making young people not feel connected with their families. If families spent that time doing things together and talking and really knowing each other, I think we would have stronger and happier families.
